Challenges with free shipping
A loyal customer, on average, is 10 times more valuable than their first purchase.
By providing free first-class shipping on all orders, we were able to increase loyalty for those first-time customers, we definitely followed the best sales tips. If we had charged a flat rate for shipping, these customers would have waited longer to make their first purchase.
One of the big challenges with free shipping is determining whether or not someone will pay for their product. This is tough because if you’re trying to make a sale, you want to maximize that sale. But if you’re trying to capture new customers, you have to be creative.
Once you have enough data on your customers’ spending patterns, it will be easier to make them aware of free shipping. For instance, if someone is interested in shopping at your store, you can remind them that all products ship free on orders over $99. That means someone who orders two items can use a $99 value to buy the first and the second, but not both at once. Since you’ve already taken their order, you’ll never charge them for shipping costs. Your customers will understand and be satisfied that you’re putting them first, even if that means only paying for what they buy.
4. Always be on the look-out for pricing cuts. When there’s free shipping, you want to make sure you’re offering a reasonable amount of it. You’re looking for the cheapest price and the most attractive rate of shipping as you try to get the most possible orders in a limited period of time. If someone orders an item from you and says, “I want free shipping, but only when it arrives in a certain time frame,” that can be a great sign. You know it’s possible they have a need for the item, but your goal is to get as many people as possible in as few orders as possible. 5. Don’t ignore the buyer’s feedback.
“Buyers like free items, and they’re willing to pay for items, but they will always give you a higher rating if you have a review. It’s the same with a sale: we don’t sell our items until they’ve been played, but then they make the sale price and we pay for it immediately.”
One of the reasons you need a live chat is because you need to go through this feedback process with the buyer. For a long time now, it’s been a struggle for sellers to find ways to increase customer ratings. We’ve found that if you just talk to the customer about the item, they’ll eventually feel more secure buying that item on Steam, as they’ll have more of a “good” experience with it. 6. Don’t go off the reservation. Once you’ve talked to the buyer about the item, do not just copy the listing. I’ll talk a bit more about copycatting in a future article, but make sure that you never just copy another user’s listing and make it your own. We’re looking for users who will take initiative, who will add the value that the item adds to the game, and who will have the personality to stand out from the crowd. A couple of other things to keep in mind for sales.
